Town of Annapolis Royal

Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia – August 8, 2006

Civic improvements will soon be under way that will enhance the culture and heritage aspects of Annapolis Royal's economy. The municipality is building on a solid foundation. Recently it was awarded the Prince of Wales Prize by Heritage Canada that recognizes exemplary commitment to preserving heritage.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) is investing $118,862 under the Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) to extend a boardwalk that runs along the Town's waterfront and develop a plaza on St. George Street. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of ACOA.

"As Minister of ACOA, I am committed to working with communities to support infrastructure investments that provide a foundation for future economic development", said Minister MacKay. "Our government is dedicated to building a stronger Canada by listening to what communities have to say about the future".

"We are pleased to see the first phase of the Boardwalk Extension Project get underway. Annapolis Royal is an anchor tourism attraction for the area, and this boardwalk extension will give us an additional feature for residents and visitors to enjoy," said Annapolis Royal Mayor John Kinsella.

ACOA's support for this project was provided through the ICF, a five-year $175-million initiative to support economic development throughout Atlantic Canada in critical areas such as innovation, community development, training and improving the climate for business growth.
