Following the next election (also by acclamation) he became Deputy Mayor in Mayor Stuart Jamieson’s Council. In 1997 he became Mayor of Annapolis Royal (again, by acclamation). He decided not to re-offer in 2000 and was subsequently engaged as Communications Officer for the Western Valley Development Authority (2001-2002) and as Registrar of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre at Cornwallis (2003-2004). In 2005 he was returned to Town Council in a special election (following the resignation of one of the councillors elected in 2004) and became Deputy Mayor in May 2008 following the resignation of John Kinsella for health reasons and the subsequent appointment of Jane DeWolfe as Mayor.

Pat Power
Annapolis Royal is my home town and I returned here to live in the mid 80’s when my husband, Len, retired from the Canadian Armed Forces. My working career has been in the field of Finance, Payroll and Employee Benefits. I had worked at the Municipality of the County of Halifax before my return to Annapolis, spent nearly 8 years with the Annapolis District School Board prior to amalgamation and until recently, with Human Resources at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre’s Cornwallis office. It has long been an ambition of mine to become involved at the municipal level of government and I am extremely pleased to have been acclaimed as a Council Member of the Town of Annapolis Royal. My goals during my term in office are to actively promote cooperation within the various sectors of the community, to help attain transparency in the town affairs and to contribute my time, energy and skills as a Councillor and committee member. I feel that my work experience and having served as Treasurer of the Annapolis Baptist Pastorat and as a former Board Member of the local Family and Children’s Services will assist me in accomplishing these goals. I will be an open and approachable conduit between Annapolis Royal citizens, business owners and Town Hall and invite contact when and as issues arise.

Doug Shaffner
