Annapolis Royal is small and compact. We keep it that way for your convenience!
The traffic light at Prince Albert/St. George (the only traffic light in town) is the best landmark for finding your way around.
Locally, we refer to locations on St. George St. as being “above the lights” or “below the lights”. If you’re looking for the Historic Gardens, the schools, health centre, Highway 8 or Highway 101, go “above the lights”.
If it’s the National Historic District you’re looking for, including Fort Anne National Historic Site, our museums, and most of our shops and services, head down “below the lights”. That’s also where you’ll find the largest public parking areas. We encourage our visitors to park and walk whenever possible.
Don’t neglect the side streets and the oldest street in Canada, at the lower end of St. George St. There’s plenty to see, and it’s all within a short walk from our National Historic District.
For those who have a mobility challenge, all sidewalks and most of our public buildings (theatre, banks, Town Hall, library, Historic Gardens, Fort Anne, etc.) are wheelchair accessible.
If your map and these suggestions don’t get you where you’re going, don’t be shy about asking someone on the street for directions.
