- Purpose:
Annapolis Royal residents and businesses pride themselves on living and working in a beautiful small town. In order to maintain the high standard that has been achieved, and that residents and businesses have come to expect, Town Council have seen fit to enact this bylaw.
- Definition of Unsightly:
What is or is not considered unsightly for the purposes of this Bylaw is dependent on local standards set by the residents and businesses located within the Town of Annapolis Royal. Local is defined as within the boundaries of the Town of Annapolis Royal.
The following conditions are considered unsightly, in accordance with local standards:
- Buildings with:
pealing paint
scraped paint (except where an active paint job is in progress)
an excessive number of objects visible from the street or adjacent property(ies)
excessive vegetation on brick walls which undermines brickwork
facia boards missing
broken screen doors and/or windows
- Hedges or bushes:
that are not kept trimmed and healthy
- Lawns that are:
unmowed
untrimmed
- Front or back yards:
with an excessive number of objects visible from the street or adjacent property(ies)
with tires
that look excessively untidy
- Administrator for dangerous and unsightly premises
The CAO for the Town of Annapolis Royal shall be the Administrator for dangerous and unsightly premises in the Town of Annapolis Royal.
- Procedure
The procedure that shall be followed with respect to dangerous or unsightly premises shall be in accordance with Part XV of the Municipal Government Act.
- Violations
Any person who fails to comply with any provision of this Bylaw is punishable on summary conviction by a fine of not less than $250.00 and not more than $1,000.00.
- Payment in Lieu of Prosecution
Any person who contravenes this Bylaw and who is given notice of the contravention may pay to the Town of Annapolis Royal, at the place specified in the notice, the minimum sum provided under the Towns Payment in Lieu of Prosecution Policy, within 14 days of the date of the notice and shall thereby avoid prosecution for that contravention.
- Effective Date
This Bylaw comes into force effective date of publishing.
